My Most Recent Challenging Learning Experience
In my few months of learning to program, I have taken a few online courses, read quite a number of books, watched a lot of videos tutorials and attended a lot of coding classes. Picking my most recent challenging learning experience is not quite an easy task but I will try my best to give the most accurate answer.
The first language I picked up was Java, then PHP. The first online course I enrolled for was a web development course on Codecademy, and I also attended my first boot-camp in the month of July this year. I wont be saying anything about the boot-camp yet, until some other time, please bear with me.
All these were easy tasks, or perhaps better to say, they weren’t really as challenging as I would have expected because I was learning at my own pace so it was easy for me to pick a book today and drop it tomorrow, or as in the case of online courses, just copying and pasting ready made codes to pass the tests and challenges of the online courses. Then came CS50.
In case you don’t know what CS50 is, it is an introductory to computer science course offered by Harvard University and hosted on the edx learning platform. Yes the lecture videos were interesting and engaging (Professor David Malan was a man so full of life) but I had a tough time understanding some concepts like pointers and so on.
Because I wasn’t ready to quit, I would stay up all night looking for solutions on the internet. During that period, Stack Overflow became my go-to website for coding solutions and Quora became my new home.
Now when I look back, I can’t help but cheer myself because I am proud of what i have gained. I built up a lot of skills including but not limited to Problem Analysis, Clean Code Ethics and so on. Yes there surely is room to always learn. “No one is ever too old to learn.”
So there you have it, my most recent challenging learning experience. A big thanks to Medium for giving me an avenue to express myself and a big thanks to everyone that has in one way or the other contributed to my learning. Until next time….
